Futura Foods expands its dairy food supply and services in the UK with the acquisition of the assets of GRH Food Company, a cheese cutting and grating service, near Porthmadog, Wales.
Futura Foods has today announced the acquisition of the assets of GRH Food Company, based in Snowdonia Business Park in Minffordd, expanding its offer to UK food service providers, food manufacturing and retailers.
Managing Director Hans Christiansen says: “With the rapid growth of convenience food and food-to-go, the acquisition of a cheese cutting and grating service, combined with Futura’s expertise in the supply of cheese and yoghurt to the UK market, will delight our existing customer base and present new market opportunities.”
With the acquisition Futura Foods will be able to offer value added services and innovative new products.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Futura Foods UK Ltd, Futura Foods Wales Ltd (FFW) has been created to accommodate the asset acquisition. GRH itself was founded in 1989 by Gareth Hockridge and supplied a range of sliced and grated cheese formats to food service, food manufacturing and retail customers. It has been a family run business throughout its history, and has state-of-the-art slicing and grating facilities. Before its closure the company had 86 employees.
The site is located in an area that is the focus of a 1.7 million investment by the Welsh Government to boost local industry, and this acquisition will be welcomed for its positive impact on the local community and the continuation of cheese production.
Futura Foods is one of the biggest distributors of continental cheese and wider dairy products to the UK and Ireland. Since 2013 the company has been part of the Nordex Food Group, which has headquarters in Dronninglund, Denmark. Nordex manufactures white cheese in Denmark, Austria and Romania and trades a wide selection of other cheeses from the Southeast Mediterranean area. The group has a turnover of more than £200 million, exports to more than 70 countries worldwide and employs 350 people.
Keld Pedersen, Nordex Food Group founder and majority share owner, and Chair of Futura Foods comments: “We are delighted to welcome FFW on board and to demonstrate our confidence in the UK market potential. Futura is a strong arm of the Nordex Group and we look forward to establishing this expansion of our services.”
