Could you be the 2024 Sandwich Designer of the Year?

The Sandwich & Food to Go Designer Competition returns for 2024!

Futura Foods are again sponsoring a Development chef category, challenging entrants to create sandwich and food-to-go products that showcase innovative uses of one our products.

This year our chosen product is Gorgonzola Piccante. This DOP blue cheese from the Lombardy region of Italy, has a strong and spicy taste profile, with a firm but creamy texture. The intense flavour allows a little to go a long way, and it melts well making it versatile and equally delicious in hot and cold dishes.

Gorgonzola, along with other blue cheeses, can often be a challenge to food processors and manufacturers. However, our market leading innovation, certified by Campden BRI, has created a solution for high care processing environments. The natural micro flora in the cheese that gives Gorgonzola its characterful flavour and appearance are supressed without damaging the taste profile and you are  able to boast the PDO status.

The competition has previously attracted entrants from the some of the biggest players in the world of food to go, including Greencore, Samworth Brothers, and Leathams as well as independent food to go businesses up and down the country. Contestants will also be challenged with products in three other categories – provided by our co-sponsors of the competition Mona Dairies, H Smith, and Cottage Delight.

Registration is now open for anyone working within the sandwich and food to go industry who wants to enter the competition. Once this registration period ends, participants will receive samples of the products for each category in order to perfect their creations before the shortlist for each heat is decided.

The three regional heats take place between the 5^th and 7^th of March 2024 ahead of the live final and SAMMIES Awards Dinner in London on the 9^th May.
